Assets and Liabilities

How many of you have read "Rich Dad Poor Dad"? Well, it hit me last night that in our business clients are the biggest assets and liabilities. If you get to be good friends with a bride and groom, they love your work, and you treat them right...they will put money back in your pocket in the form of referrals. On the other hand, if you don't do engagement shoots, you don't customize pakages for each couples needs, and you never meet a deadline...they are not going to refer you to anyone, and might even give you a bad name. This is a people business, and we need to treat our clients like they are our biggest investment...because they are.

p.s.
One of the most enjoyable parts of being a photographer is making new friends all the time. If your a people photographer, and you don't enjoy people...you might want to rethink your career choice.

Mandy

I really am trying to concentrate on my wedding business, but last night we did an awesome senior session. I got duped into doing headshots on a studio background, but I didn't melt or anything. Mandy had her hair and makeup done by the fabulous Sharon McMahon, and even all the wind and heat in Green Bay couldn't dissolve Sharon's work. The smiles that I had the priviledge of capturing were just glimpses of what is truly on the inside of this girl's heart. Thanks for the great images, and have a great senior year!

How many hats do you wear?

"If many businesses approached space planning the way that they approached web sites, their staff would be sitting on milk crates in an unheated concrete room and sales people would meet with customers at the Greyhound Station." Chris Tracy

This pretty much sums up why I am having my site outsourced. It came to point where I could not wear all the hats in my business, and my images were suffering from it. I am starting to develope a deep relationship with my style of photography, and it's all good. It was a lot of fun working on Michelle and Adam's images yesterday, and I think it shows. We need to put our whole heart into what we love most, and stop trying to do it all! I'm excited about my photography and what I can do to honor the Lord with the talents he has blessed me with.

Adam and Michelle

I had am awesome wedding yesterday! The couple made me feel like family, and we had a blast! I even got to grab lunch with them at Jimmy Johns. We had the priveledge to shoot at the Weidner Center here in Green Bay on the UWGB campus (thanks Tom), and shooting in such a big place with such a beautiful couple makes me a little on edge...but I think the images are some of my best. I hope you enjoy the show. Congratulations Michelle and Adam!

Kelly

Last, but certainly the most important person in my life...my wonderful wife Kelly. As you can see in the picture she is beautiful, enjoys reading, and sailing(especially sailing)! This woman is responsible for Mark Hawkins Photography, our daughter, her class load(she's a teacher), and me...that's the biggest job. I truly would be an absolute mess without her. We operate on the magnet priciple: Opposites Attract! We are complete opposites in alot of areas, but our attraction for one another is always growing. God is responsible for magnetism, and He is responsible for our marriage as well. Thank you God for such a awesome soulmate! This was our view last night from Arriba in the Oconto Breakwater.

Sydney

Let me introduce, my almost one year old daughter, Sydney. She is a constant reminder to Kelly and I of God's blessing in our life. We take Syd on some of our engagement shoots, and all of our clients love her (except the time she ran off with Lindsey's purse)! The biggest thing that I have learned this year in regards to parenting goes back to my second post...time. Children need your time! Enjoy the day and this great photo. Notice the shoes...she's my first mate!

Trent and Erin

I am breaking the very rule I was talking about in the last post! This is not a good start, however I feel it is a good cause. I am excited about showing slideshows throughout the blog and that is what I am working on so diligently at 1:30 am! This was a great engagement shoot yesterday evening. We even had time for sticky buns and lemonade after the shoot! Congrats Trent and Erin!

TIME

I thought that my computer at work was the fastest computer in the west, and the computer I had at home was super slow in comparison. Now, I have the fastest computer in the world (not really) at home; and this computer at work is a dog...I mean like a turtle dog. About my old computer at home, thats Kelly's computer now! I can't emphasize enough how important it is to have a fast machine for multitasking. To be able to run DPP, Bridge, PSCS2, ROES, and Roxio all at the same time is just awesome! Thats all we have in life is the time that God has given us, so if we waste it sitting behind a slow computer; we are still accountable for that lost time. Sure it's a very exciting time that we live in, the digital age, but I think its important to set down goals for time behind the screen. I try to be off the computer by 11:00pm...I don't always make it, but that's my goal. Don't waste your time...it's priceless!

Welcome to markhawkinsphoto.blog!

I started this journal to share with other people the joys of my family, business, and Jesus Christ in my life. I give all the glory to God for my time and talents. I hope you enjoy the posts, and please email me with any questions you have.

Have a great Tuesday!
